About 50 Russians feared missed in Thailand

MOSCOW - About 50 Russians in Thailand have not contacted Russian authorities after the earthquake sent tidal waves surging through the region, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko reported commenting on the latest data on the situation in the region. This data appeared after the Russian Embassy to Thailand worked with tourist agencies and hotels in the region and on the basis of information got from their relatives. The Russian Embassy still gets the information about Russians in the devastated region. The number of Russian tourists, who are safe, is rising.
On December 30 a Russian plane will land on the Thai island of Phuket to evacuate Russians. Meanwhile, the Thai death toll is rising. According to most recent data released by the Foreign Ministry, 1,543 people are dead and about 9,000 were injured.
