When it comes to celebrating New Year, the Chinese and the Russians think alike: They both make the holiday last two weeks. But if Russians party from Dec. 31 to Jan. 13, the Chinese do it from Feb. 1-15. Things Chinese have made inroads in Moscow over recent years Feng Shui, Chinese food, etc. Now's your chance to join more than a billion Chinese in celebrating New Year (again), and here are some tips to help you do it.
1. Uzbekistan
This highly reputed Central Asian restaurant also offers Chinese food that's considered some of the best you can get in Moscow. If you want confirmation, make sure you're there between Feb. 10-23, when famous Singaporean chef Fu Sai Li shows off his talent during a Chinese haute cuisine week.
2. Silk
Just look at one of this Chinese restaurant's ads to see what advantages it offers: It's open until morning and home-delivery service is available within the Garden Ring.
3. Klub na Brestskoi
This is probably the only club in town that officially celebrates the Chinese New Year. This year's program will include the Bronislav Vinogrodsky Tea Theater, an ancient tea-brewing ceremony over an open flame, dream interpretation, Chinese calligraphy and a concert by Buryat-Mongolian folk band Namgar. How's that for exotic?
4. Hiro
The cuisine here comes from Southeast Asia, but apart from preparing good Japanese and Thai dishes, the chefs also turn out excellent Chinese dishes.
5. Kitaisky Lyotchik Dzhao Da
Despite the name, this cosmopolitan club isn't holding any specific Chinese New Year events. But it is going some way Asian with a performance Feb. 1 by Uzbek folk star Sevara Nazarkhan.
6. Tofu
It's Asia all around at this pleasant cafe, with dishes from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, and a selection of Chinese food, too.
7. Kitaisky Kvartal
The name suggests Chinatown, and this is a genuinely Chinese restaurant that's open around the clock and won't break your budget.
8. Five Spice
You can immerse yourself in the Chinese theme at this centrally located restaurant. The cuisine is versatile, inventive and, most important, good to eat.
9. Peko
This teahouse has plans to add food to its menu. But people don't come here to eat; they come for the 50 kinds of genuine Chinese teas on offer.
10. Ministerstvo
Although the club's announced program mentions the Chinese New Year, the upcoming party here is actually Aromatic Night Part II, a continuation of the presentation of the new Plush men's scent from FUBU with tunes by Parisian DJ Fab Merlin. DM
