• Lindbergh's new exhibit
• An exhibition of the work of internationally renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh will be on display at the Museum of Private Collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts until March 10. "Peter Lindbergh: Images of Women" will be the first foreign-photo exhibition in the museum's history provided not by another museum, but by a person. "Images of Women" will feature Lindbergh's most famous and characteristic works of the 1980s and 1990s. His style combines naturalism and sincerity and is devoid of the artificial spectacular effects so often overused in modern photography. Lindbergh is the winner of numerous awards, and in 1995 he became an honorary member of the Art Directors' Club of Germany.
• Short films festival
• On Feb. 21-24 the cafe-club Kult will be hosting a festival of short movies – 20 films of various genres by both renowned and young directors and 11 shorts by classic British director Peter Greenaway. Ten years ago, Greenaway became famous among alternative-cinema lovers for his phantasmagoric, philosophical and sometimes bizarre films. Watching his films time and again, one will every time come away with new impressions and discover new aspects and details in the work. Greenaway combines music, choreography, costumes, decor and acting into a single piece of high art. This is probably why his films are liked by both highbrows and young college kids.
• Night Life Awards
• The Night Life Awards, scheduled to take place in the Orlyonok movie and concert center on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m., is expected to bring together the city's club-goers, party animals and bohemians alongside celebrities, club owners, art directors, promoters and DJs. Awards will be given to those who best popularize and promote nightclub subculture in a total of 15 categories, including Club of the Year and Best Dance Club. Moscow's club life has gained momentum over the last several years: New clubs appear in the city every month and boast an increasingly high quality of service and versatility of programs and styles. The awards ceremony will be attended by quite a few famous people, including pop singers Shura and Lika and transvestite showmen Fiery Lady and Vadim Monroe. All in all, the organizers are preparing to entertain a crowd of over 2,000 people.
• St. Petersburg's Black Nights
• "Petersburg – Black Nights," a retrospective exhibition of the work of renowned avant-garde non-conformist St. Petersburg artist Leonid Borisov, will be on display in the Tochka art gallery from Feb. 27 to March 13. His paintings and installations grace the collections of many museums in Russia and abroad, including the State Russian Museum of St. Petersburg, the Dresden Art Gallery in Germany and the Zimmerlie Art Museum in the United States. The planned exhibition embraces practically every period of the artist's creativity, beginning with his early works. Borisov lived and worked in St. Petersburg, a city of architecturally impeccable forms that found reflection in his works, which are simultaneously expressive, unpretentious and sophisticated.
