‘Future jazz" is the only cliche that can be offered for this fresh Norwegian release. It's not hard to guess, however, even for a layman, where a "new conception of jazz" leads to in the 21st century. You guessed it – live jazz improvisations.

However Bugge (pronounced "boogie"), one of Norway's top jazz pianists, feeling the inevitable changes that all music – jazz included – faces, has made sure that the transition goes by smoothly. After all, the album's name is "Moving."

The last few years have seen professional jazzmen and electronica come together more and more. Even Blue Note Records – one of the foremost classical jazz labels – at first reluctantly, but now with more gusto, took hold of the change, with the likes of St. Germain.

Not counting Bugge on the grand piano, the New Conception of Jazz includes a jazz saxophonist, double-bass player and percussionist as well as DJs on hand to mix and scratch. Six tracks, taking up a whole hour, explore both sides of the hybrid, with ambient mixes sparked by a jazz bass section and saxophones as well as one purely instrumental track.
